I dont think this is the micron 9 ram that people are always talking about, but would this be a nice budget setup for a begining OC'er using e6600/badaxe 2?

I am smashing my head against the wall trying to decide 4 latency vs. 5? geil vs. ocz vs. corsair....and came across this. it is in the Low 200's which is where I would like to be.

Also, would this be compatible witha xbx2? That intel website is kinda confusing.

Or. for $225 what is the 2 gig call?

get it from Tankguys, $230 which i don't think can be beat for this price. they don't use Micron D9, they use Promos and don't hide this fact. the 8-layer PCB helps though it seems because the results coming from this kit seem to be better than most Promos kits. i just had a look at the PC6400 kit and Eclipse just reviewed the PC5300 version. both put up pretty good numbers.

PC5300 Team Dark:

PC6400 Team Dark:

Bjorn3D also posted a review of PC6400 but there doesn't seem to be a lot of OCing info there:
http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1045

and just because you asked nicely, a couple forum posts with some pretty interesting results ;)

they definitely look to be doing alright. they aren't Micron D9 but still pretty damn nice for the price. HTH

for some reason it wouldnt let me post before.

I want to thank you both (again) for the info and threads (and reviews) on this memory.

If it was your money, would you invest in this memory? Or is there something I am not looking at for this price?

my purposes do not align well with this ram, since i am one of those guys who needs to push every mhz i can get.

would i get it for say.. my gf's rig? definitely.

eclipse is right on the money. all the systems i build for family and friends i overclock as much as possible, basically whatever the processor will handle on air cooling. considering the price of this kit, i wouldn't even think twice about using it in all those builds. heck, 1GB sticks of generic 667 memory run almost $250CDN locally for a pair.

for the enthusiast, gamer, and pretty much anyone other than bleeding edge overclocking benchmarkers, these Team Dark are the perfect price/performance memory. when my main system gets upgraded from a sinlge core 939 setup, chances are the Dark will be running it ;)

I would like to consider myself a enthusiast (or a starter enthusiast) and definately a gamer. I was between the Team Dark and these gskill. The timings look to be the same (I find the latency timings info a little confusing) but the gskill is a few dollars cheaper.

If 3oh6 and Eclipse(for his girlfriend) are giving their his stamp of approval, I am thinking these should work well. (and better than these gskill????)

better based on what criteria? ;)

quality and such, they're likely to be very similar. overclocking is really luck dependant.. so cost is what you should decide with, and looks if you care about that :D

Look is probably my least important trait. Stability and overclocking(i suppose limited overclocking being that they are not top top shelf ram) on a 6600/badaxe2 is what I am looking for.

If they are about equal, then i would get the less expensive... (but i do feel lucky!)

Eclipse. you make me sound very like a cheapskate. lol.

Of course i care about money, but dont have a problem spending when the rewards outweight the dollars. (i am sure there is an econ theory that describes this).

since, my inexpensive gskills were met with a bland response, If I increased my ram budget... what (in your opinion, 3oh6 and everyone else) is a kick ass 2gig kit for under $300? Firesticks, Domintaor, Crucial, A guarenteed micron 9 stick?

I just would hate to cut myself short saving 50 bucks or so. Ya know?

I only ask and look for guidance because I have been living in a 184 pin world. And I am a nub.

(and yes, you may advise me to get the ballistic).

Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC-8000 kit is $305 AR @ Newegg.
It is incredible deal for high binned D9GMH modules.

yes, the ballistix are pretty good... i think i would get the pc5300 version if i were to go the slightly more expensive overclocking route :D
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146567

however, keep in mind that while the mhz you hit may be greater, the net performance gain from it will be rather uninspiring... i really only advise getting fast ram if you're getting a 6300 due to the low cpu multiplier

i really wish i understood all of this. (but in time)

So, on a e6300 get the 6400, and for a e6600 the 5400? Because it would be a waste of money?

Do they not make the blue ones anymore?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820148017

are they the same as the memory you linked

well, it was supposed to be a limited edition thing... 10 years and all that stuff. crucial start back in '96, so it's now the 11th year, which would imply that 10 year anniversary stuff won't be made anymore ;)

Thanks that stuff is going to rock I hope! Looking to get 2x1gig modules of it or even 2x2gig if they are coming that way!

Eclipse,

Thank you for all the handholding and info. Thought it is not exactly what you suggested, I bought the yellow ballistic 6400.

You should get some sort of commission or bonus, from keeping me from jumping off my roof.

it means a lot that you (and everyone here) share your experiences.

Now for the really hard questions. (but we have a couples days until that starts) lol

I am getting crickets...?

other than the fact the NE lowered the price today on this, was it not a wise decision?
