Does anyone know of a software that can do the following:

Allows a user (or admin) to password protect a folder on a network, so when any user tries to access it, it asks for a password. (I am running win 2000server)
Yes, I know you can do this with windows and permission rights, but I cannot use this in this case.
The only software i've really tried was Folder and File Protector or something. This only let you lock and unlock a folder, meaning it would not ask for a password you had to have the software installed on your machine and physically right-click and unlock it; not what I was looking for.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Well, I hate to do this but here goes....
I just did a quick google search for "folder security software" and it came up with several options that I think would suit your needs. I'm not going to link any beause I think you'd be better off sorting through them on your own and deciding wich would suit your needs best.

Yep this is what I did too, and the first three did not do what I stated :(
They either hid, or locked the folders withough password prompts.

I'm hoping that somone might know off the top of their head.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the only way this would work is if the software was installed on all client machines. This isn't a native windows function, so the software would need to interpret the lock/unlock feature.

Are these folders a part of a domain? If so, only grant access to the AD users that you want to have access.

I don't mind installing this on each machine.

No these guys are not on a domain. :(

I think the best thing for me to do is just relocate the folder to a new directory that does not contain parent permissions. I was trying to avoid this, but I think this is best.

What about using PGP for this?
