Is the media edition the same as Windows XP Professional, and will it connect to a domain?
Thanks

If you mean Windows Media Center Edition 2005, then yes, it's basically the same as XP Pro. However, I don't believe it will connect to a domain. I've heard reports that you can choose this option during the initial install, and I also think I've seen some hacks that allow it. All in all, I'd stick to XP Pro if I needed to join a domain, and just use various freeware to give me the MCE goodies.

If it will not join a domain then it is basically Home Edition with a bunch of goodies not Pro Edition right?

The ability to join a domain is not the only thing that separates Home from Pro. If you google a quick search on the differences, you'll find some charts showing what features are present/not present in each version of XP.

Well, I haven't seen the tables in a while, but agains some of the rumors I've heard from friends, MCE DOES have remote desktop and IIS built in.

mce2005 is more then home and less then pro. It says pro when its booting and such. Atleast it has RDC over home which is something i use daily.

If use my Pro OEM key to install MCE 2005 with,it doesn't ask for the second disk and therefore doesn't install all the Media Center goodies. Everything after install says it's XP Pro with an OEM PID. If I use my MCE key then it asks for the second disk and of course I get MCE goodies and everything says the OS is Media Center Edition 2005.
Given the above, is there something on the second disk that disable some Pro features and turns and otherwise Pro install into MCE?
