Symantec has filed a lawsuit (http://www.hardocp.com/news.html?news=MjMwMDUsLCxobmV3cywsLDE=) against an alleged software piracy ring for selling counterfeit versions of its software. The company is seeking $15 million in damages.

The lawsuit, filed last month in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles seeks more than $15 million in damages from a network of U.S. and Canadian businesses that are alleged to have sold counterfeit versions of Symantec's products, including Norton AntiVirus, PCAnywhere, and Veritas Backup Exec.

I wonder if any bigger stores did this. Anyone have any other information?

I wonder if this was actually a piracy move, or whether it was the misinterpretation of large-scale licensing of Symantec's products, which is notoriously complicated.

You people use that stuff? Ewwww ;-)
I met a Symantec employee this year while on vacation on our ship....I thought it was funny when he hung his head as I told him half my jobs are fixing comps with Norton in them that are so virus infected most need wiped. And that his crappy products..and my subsequent removal of them, pretty much paid for the roof over my head! haha He didn't even try to defend it haha.

I dont make money off it but, everytime someone I know had Norton, I played hell fixing their boxes. I tell them Norton hates your computer. They MaCaffe and, AOL are like viruses to me.

i have been using a streamlined corporate version of norton for almost ten years now , catches everything , updates regularly , never had a problem with it .

however , the bloated norton products designed for consumer use today are utter garbage.

lol , i remember macafee being the garbage product years ago :D
