After my nightmare I decided to cancel my Xbox Live subscription for a undetermined amount of time, anyone else have a Xbox 360 and only have the free subscription.

After my free month of gold was up I never renewed. The only advantage I see (other than playing online with foul mouthed kiddies who practice 12 hours a day) is that gold members get newly released demos and such. I can wait. ;)
Are you sure about that?
I think a silver membership aloows you to d/l all demos/trailer and live arcade games.
I think the only diff is you can not play games over live with a silver.

Don't have Gold, but I'm really getting tempted to get it. My little brothers and I have a blast playing multi on the 360 when I'm back home, so it would be nice to play a few matches of Small Arms against them or Rainbow Six: Vegas coop when I'm not there.
Though it does kinda suck that kick my ass every single fucking time in Small Arms. Little bastards and their hours of gaming a day. :)

I have had XBL since 11/15/02
So it was not the coolness of Xbox 360 that made me sign up for Live.

While I never had Live for the original Xbox when I got the 360 I knew I was going to get Gold right away. I think the 360 is geared towards some excellent online play. As people said before its great to be playing with all your friends either coop or multiplayer again when everyone is at different colleges.

Just on Platinum systems. Not on Core.

I have the system, haven't opened it yet so I don't technically have either.
I'm not much of an online gamer so once my free gold sub is up, i'm not sure what I'll do, I guess I'll have to "wait and see"

Silver here, I don't play on it regularly enough to justify the cost, sadly I may go a month or two without touching it because of work and uni. If I want to play against a mate they can come round here and few drinks. I can still download demo's and add-ons, so it's not all bad.

I have gold so I can play with my best bud in California (I'm on the east coast). We can play and talk (no long distance calls). That's the ONLY reason I went gold, to play with friends across the country.

I had the free trial then let it expire. I didn't pay for Gold until until the [H] started having their Xbox Live Weekends. I felt like i was missing out, so i signed up. And then i saw how much fun Burnout Revenge is online so that kept me entertained for awhile. I'll probably renew when the time comes. :)
Oh, and the advantage to me of getting demos and videos early isn't simply getting them before anyone else. It's not having to compete for bandwidth with every single person connected to Live. Downloads are faster this way.
