After upgrading my modem from a Motorola SB4200 to a SB5100 I got this speed...

not really impressed since both readouts are from different servers in different cities. :/

Edit: Oops, those aren't before and after pics are they? what was it before?

Nice Speed, Sometimes router's have a Bandwidth Cap where they cant go higher then a certain number, And try the test at different times of the day see if you get that speed all day or does it go up and down?

comcast has been running ads promoting "burst up to 12 'megs' for large file downloads" recently.

Perhaps it was not related to your modem, just comcast upping the cap.

That was with PC connected directly to the new modem. I usually run thru a Linksys v5 (dd-wrt firmware)

Ya the comcast powerboost feature in effect.

suppose to be 12mbps for the 6mbps connection and 16mbps for the 8mbps connection, but it seems to use up whatever is free, very hadny feature.

This was the day after pluggin in my modem. I did it a few days in a row.

Still good.

The SB4200 max thru-put is around 5mbit/sec.

I had to get a new SB5120 when I upgraded to 15mbit/cable.

Above 5mbit, you have to start watching router wan-to-lan thru-put as well.

Power cycling your modem was called for to do this. Maybe that's effectively all the OP did.

Its a comcast feature, nothing to download. You just need a DOCSIS 1.1 modem

No, the speed has been like this since I got it home and swapped the 4200 for it. :)

Probably not in your area yet, do as homer mentioned, power cycle the modem to be sure.

The powerboost is only in effect for the first 10megs of any file download. So your bandwidth test will show the powerboost but if you actually download a file...at least on my connection w/ the 8mb + power boost package I burst to about 20mb/s down then fall back to the 8 after the first 10 megs or so...

They say this speedboost crap only works for up to a few minutes, but ive had it go for several hours while backing up my website. DOCSIS 1.0 is supposedly limited to a maximum of 38Mbps, if thats true I really dont understand how some people are claiming to get high numbers of close to 70Mbps. To me, it seems like a sneaky way of making people think the service is faster than what it really is. 320Kbps is still what they offer for upload, and 4Mbps is what my package is for around 40 a month for the first 6 months, then it goes up to the regular rate after that.

Are you sure that the cap for speedboost is at 10 Megs? If I need to download something larger than that, I may then use a download manager to resume the "boost" after the 10 megs. But it would not be good if I have to do this 10 times if I'm downloading a copy of Fedora DVD or something.

I dont think that would work. But they dont seem to limit the boost feature yet, I get 25,000-32,000mbps, it jumps in and out during long downloads, the biggest advantage seems to be from streaming media.
