G'day people,

I am a complete n00b when it comes to PSU's and need a bit of advice for my new C2D rig which I hope to build within the next month. I have an antec 480W neo in my current system which has done its job nicely but is a tad noisy for my liking. Anyway the specs of my proposed system are as follows:

E6600 (plan to overclock)
680i m/board
2 gigs Corsair dominator ram
GF 8800GTX with the possibility of SLI in the future (plan to overclock)
Stacker 830 case
300 SATA HDD x1
DVD Burner
CDR Burner

Criteria I would like the PSU to meet are that its stable, modular and easy to cable manage, quiet, not too pricey and will support all my hardware (including SLI in the future). Brands of PSU that I am able to get my hands on at wholesale prices are:

antec
thermaltake
corsair
silverstone

I may be able to get other brands if people strongly recommend that I should, but that is something I will have to investigate depending on what people have to say.

My brother is recommending the 620W corsair PSU, specs are here:

http://www.corsair.com/corsair/HX_power_supply.html

Of course I have no doubt that Corsair probably produces top notch PSU's, but there is always the premium associated with it. Would be very much grateful if anyone here can recommend a cheaper PSU of the same quality or any other PSU that may satisfy my criteria outlined above.

Very much appreciated

i deff recommend a 600+watt psu for what you're doing

this has a nice $25 MIR (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153039)

Go with the HX 620. it'll work with SLI (not officially, as tested by redbeard) and it's modular and has the cool cables. Best $150 you'll ever spend.

Arent the tough powers a bit dodgey? I am sure I have read numerous complaints about them on this forum

rofl! Sorry, didnt realise that you were actually referring to the corsair PSU....stupid me!

According to the Corsair website the HX is SLI certified. Do you happen to own one?

The HX 620 will handle (officially) up to 7900gtx's and (unofficially) up to 8800gtx's. Just ask Redbeard, who, armed with a few molex-pci-e adaptors, manages just fine.

I do not own an HX 620. I would LOVE to get one for Christmas (Hey Lisa you listening?).

Okay, just to add these into the mix, here are some other PSU's that I can get wholesale:

600W "Zalman" ZM600-HP Power Supply

http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/view.asp?idx=223&code=015

600W "SilverStone" ST60F

http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-60f.htm

750W "SilverStone" ST75F

http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-75f.htm

750W "SilverStone" ST75Z

http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-75zf.htm

All of these are cheaper than the 620W "Corsair" HX-620, so if they are just as good and meet the criteria set out in my original post, then all the better :)

More comments and views are very appreciated.....like I said, I am very n00bish when it comes to PSU's and really need some input

Thanks again

Dont quite understand what you mean by "unofficially supported", do you have a link to posts by redbeard explaining this?

I'd go with the PC power and cooling Silencer 750.

I'm currently using a Seasonic M12 700W. I went with it because it was modular. But, having hooked everything up, I'm just not impressed with modular cables. I used to just stuff the unused cables into an empty drive bay. . . and the end result in my case is the same. So, I've just now placed an order for the new quad version of the PCP&C Silencer 750.

60a on the 12v rail.
Four PCI-E video card connectors (new quad version only).

Should eventually certify for 8800gtx SLi.

$219 direct from PCP&C.

If you were not going SLI, I would recommend the Corsair but the Silencer 750 would be the long term winner.

You're not working hard enough then ;)
