I haven't seen anyone else post this so I hope its ok...Well I was surfing the net (instead of doing work) and I was looking up Black Friday ads to see if there was anything really worth it (but there isn't) but I did see this note at this website:
http://bfads.net/
For anyone who is looking to purchase a PlayStation 3, but doesn’t want to wait in line for the chance to purchase one, Costco.com will be selling them online beginning 8:00am PST on Friday, November 17th.
This item will be available for purchase on costco.com on Friday, November 17, 2006 at approximately 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time. The item will be prominently displayed on the homepage of costco.com until it is sold out.
Due to an extremely limited supply, we can accept orders from current Costco members only on a first come, first served basis, with a limit of one unit per household. The Costco warehouses do not have units available at this time.
Supply is limited, so I would expect Costco.com to be very slow beginning around 7:59:30 when everyone starts refreshing their pages like madmen.
So if you want a PS3 and didn't reserve one there is a chaqnce I guess. Worse comes to worse it wouldn't hurt to try seeing that all you need to do is click like a madman at the website at 8am PST.....but like I said its just a rumor IMO.
UPDATE: Ok AARGH! posted the whole email so its not just a rumor it is apparently confirmed from an email from costco to customers who wanted to be updated to the status of PS3 availability.

I run ecommerce websites for a living and I will shed a tear for their servers at 8am that day...

Ya this just spread around the internet like wildfire... I would try other online sites that people don't think of...

Yes unfortuantly I doubt many smaller unknown websites will be getting many if any PS3's to sell at least until Sony start a steady continuous shipment of systems. As for me I am simply hoping to get a Wii and thats it for this year. And once the PS3 hype dies down maybe I will buy one then but not until after the HD format war ends....if ever....or whichever format Star Wars gets released for....

Since Fox would be releasing Star Wars and Fox is pretty firmly in the Blu-Ray camp... :p

Well that depends ;) Star Wars HD probably won't come out for another like 5-10 years anyways so who knows what format will be around by then :D and then after that we will get a release of an unedited version of the original.....

Fox is pretty firmly in the Blu-Ray camp... :p
You know media companies... they'll go with whatever decision makes them the most money at the time. I think it's likely to end up that everyone barring Sony goes multi-format.

Of course, there's also that New Line will be releasing the Lord of the Rings films on HD DVD, and they're at *least* as big as (and much, MUCH better than) Star Wars.
It's also worth noting that so far, HD DVD is handily kicking Blu Ray's *ass*, as evidenced by Amazon's (http://www.thedvdwars.com/index.cfm) records for both formats, updated daily.
Don't get me wrong--BOTH formats suck and I'd much prefer to see *both* die the horrible and flaming death that they deserve, but if we *must* have one or the other of these shoddy formats, we're far better off with it being HD DVD.

It only makes sense that HD DVD's are selling more since there isn't a Blu Ray player out there a normal consumer is going to buy. Plus the HD-DVD for the xbox is already out which I am sure boosted sales.
Once the PS3 gets into more households I can pretty much guarantee the Blu Ray sales will rise.
Thats not to say I support either or, just saying that obviously there is cheaper and more hardware for the HD DVD format at the moment.
From what I have seen in Reviews, The Blu Ray players vs. HD DVD players there isn't a lot of difference but both are great quality.

In the end the biggest deciding factor for the winner of the "HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray war" is going to be cost to the consumer. The average rational person thinks "if it's just as good and it costs less, then why not get it?" So I offer two thoughts/observations:
-HD-DVD's tend to cost less (about the same price as the normal non-HD DVD's) while Blu-Ray movies tend to be $25-$30 from what I've seen. That will push alot of people to the HD-DVD side.
-HD-DVD players are cheaper than Blu-ray players (from those I've seen). Best Buy has a Blu-Ray player for a measly $999. The PS3 will ring in at $600. HD-DVD add on for Xbox 360 is $160 right now at CC...and I've heard the quality is as good as the best HD-DVD player around right now.
I've seen the demo's of both of them at Best Buy and I can't really tell you which I like more (mostly because they were showing two different programs on two different TV's, so it's hard to judge) but I was impressed with both.
I'll probably just wait it out.

I think we're better off having the one with the most space... especially when using it for computer files...
Pyscho: Fox and Sony will be the last 2 to jump off the Blu-Ray ship if it fails... Fox has made it pretty obvious they support Blu-Ray fully... Disney might go over to HD-DVD if it takes a strong lead but Fox and Sony are staying on until it's obvious Blu-Ray will fail... but at this point companies are ONLY going to Blu-Ray by supporting both, not the other way around.
It's supposed to come out in 2007
It is said that this edition will be released in a "Grand Saga" box set, and the home video format will most likely be Blu-ray, as 20th Century Fox, as well as Lucas himself, have said they prefer this format.
DragonMasterAlex: LotR will be released on both formats. I'm excited because I prefer the LotR series over Star wars... especially the new Star Wars...

Thanks AARGH! for the update. I wasn't sure as to their source so I didn't want to call it fact....

hopefully its a "bundle" like Circuit Citys last minute 360 presale was last year. Where they will include an extra controller and also let you choose 2-3 games or whatever. Ill hate if they dont allow you to choose the games.

The page from their website that last showed the correct release date of Nov. 2006, showed the SKU in the bundled section of the video games systems page.
On the cached page on Google you can see the section is toys | video game bundles | playstation 3
It is a complete stab in the dark as to what will actually show up on the page tomorrow, but their current 360 bundles have a headline type game, extra controller, charger, and marketplace points.

Wrong Fox doesn't own anything but a New Hope at best. Lucas owns all the rights to them, and if he ever does release them it'll be on both formats to max his profits.

Read my post. Lucas prefers Blu-Ray...
I don't know who owns the rights to the movies but Fox is the publisher and they will only be published by Fox.
