ive looked online n such and read about soldering if ur a pro, or even getting a whole new ide piece, etc...well whats ur guy's thoughts or suggestions.

its a hitachi 160gb IDE drive i got a few months back at bestbuy for $50, my other i still have and works like a champ according to some Hd utilitys ive checked with, health, spin up time etc...

just hate that a whole 160gb is being unused cause of 1 stupid pin, because i made a mistake and bent, then it broke off.

coo thanks for that, damn what a coincidence thats the exact pin that broke off, anyways thx again for link.not sure if i can pull it off, but i guess worth a try.

im wondering is there any place that offers the service of doing it professionally like replacing the ide board all together, and what its cost are, drive was cheap yes, but i did have some data that id like to get off, and or have it again as a functional drive.

Notice how he claims he broke a non crucial pin? he actually broke PIN ONE. The _RESET pin. Your drive will NOT work without a reset pin.

That's pin 39.

I might be tempted to try to repair it if I could get my hand on a new connector,...

(Soldering iron + solder sucker)x50 or so, and some steady hands and you could fix that thing,... I get paid to solder though (its a wonderful life, I know ;) )
