so i've got two drives in my computer - 1 new 250gig SATA and an older 80gig IDE drive that i mostly use for media storage. backing up all the time too. both are western digital drives.

anyways, the 80 gig has been behaving strangely...the only way i can describe it is that it 'gets up and walks away' every now and then. it just seems to shut down and disappear from my lsit of drives in windows. i figure maybe its getting near the end of its life, but it never damages any data (unless its in transfer to the drive while it turns off) and a simple restart fixes it every time.

so what do you guys think? drive dying?

possibly.
Go into control panel/power options and disable "turn off hard disks".
I've had drives power down and not come back up.
Make sure all the connectors are refitted snugly.

If it still turns off, it looks like its on the way out.
