help! drive problem!

Hey guys, just got a problem with one of my laptops having died, more specifically the backlight died. Regardless I took the hard drive out of laptop and put it into an external drive and now I cannot access my username to copy my important stuff off of there, is there a way to crack this? I unselected "Read-Only" but it had no effect.

G:\Documents and Settings\<name here> is not accessible.

Access is denied.

"Take Ownership" of the folder, google it.
