Am I being a noob and missing something with raid?

Ok, so i admit im a raid noob. but I gave it a shot. I just upgrade my computer to SATA, and a brand new drive to go with it. But i had 2 WD IDE's I wanted to keep as storage drives. So anyways, I ordered an Ultra Brand ATA-100/133 raid controller.

I get the controller, plug everything in. I create a new raid setting to Striped, raid 0. Now, when i boot it up, it posts, the raid controller displays the striped drives...and it just hangs on a black screen.

So i think ok, some setting is probably wrong, I remove the drives with the raid controller still in the PCI slot. Boot up, and it loads up perfectly, so i proceed to backup my data, thinking i need to format it thru the raid controller. But after plugging everything in its still doing the same thing. No other new hardware has been added, made sure everythings plugged in. I've left the screen hanging for about 20 min now and still nothing, altho the HDD light is constantly on. Am i missing something?

I should mention that I can access the BIOS settings and the Raid controller settings. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

ninja edit: When i booted it up without the drives plugged in and the raid controller still in, windows detected it, and I proceeded to install the drivers for it.

I'd look at jumper configurations on the drives and what is necessary for the controller. Master/slave on one port, two masters on separate ports, etc.

hummm tried changing jumpers around a bit, but we've basically narrowed it down to the IDE controller is conflicting with my onboard controller. If i turn off my sata controller it will try to boot up from those 2 drives. Removing both drives from the controller and i am able to boot from the SATA drive.

Even tho in my bios i have a harddisk boot priority set up, the controller seems to ignore it and cause conflicts. Any ideas how to solve this?
