New RAID setup - advice required please...

Hi,

It's been far too long since I built my last PC, so I am a little rusty.

I am looking at a Lian Li v2000 and filling the 12x 3.5" slots with 500Gb SATA drives.
I want to have a RAID-5 set across 11 of them with the 12th acting as a 'hot-spare'

Is there a RAID card out there that will do this?
Can you suggest an alternative.?

Yes, the 12 port Areca cards will do that. They are quite expensive. In fact, most 12-port hardware raid cards should handle that fine.

Your not joking when you said they were quite expensive! 600ukp for the ARC-1230 model.
