I just installed service pack 2 (SP2) and it installed fine I suppose and I was instructed to restart, well now it restarts and goes to the windows loading screen and just keeps loading for 30 minutes, so I turned off my computer and the same thing occurs. It is really annoying. Is there anyway to remove SP2, without reformatting?
Thanks!
I'm really getting tired of windows operating systems!

Nope :(
Best bet is you clean install with a fresh slipstreamed copy...autostreamer is your friend :D

Another vote for autostreamer. It's been so long since people were installing SP2 separate, that I don't remember for sure....but it seems like anytime SP2 failed with a manual install, it was due to spyware being present on the system.
Use the above mentioned autostreamer to make a new XP SP2 disc, and then run a repair install.

Acutally you can remove sp2 under your situation. I would first try booting into safe mode and see if it boots up. If so go to add remove programs.
If it won't boot into safe mode, boot from your XP cd and follow these steps. (http://www.compphix.com/userecoveryconsolesp2.html)
And yes I definitely recommend running a chkdsk, av and spyware sweep before attempting the upgrade.

I will agree with you, djnes, the last time that i installed SP2 and it blew up was with a box with spyware on it. Removing the spyware fixed the problem.

if you installed SP2 after the fact, you can uninstall it. When you install SP2 it forces you to backup the pre-SP2 data and if you go to the add/remove programs dialog there should be an option to remove it.

Did you download and run the full SP2 install, or did you do the SP2 through Windows Updates?
I have seen several times the SP2 through WU fails or kills the PC, but the full SP2 downloaded, installed AOK
