Has anyone been able to install the latest Soundblaster X-Fi drivers to their VM machines? I believe I have a Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Music card. However, when I try installing the latest drivers from Soundblaster.com, the new drivers complain they can not find a valid piece of hardware. A quick search of the Creative forums shows that maybe I'm using some OEM product not supported by Soundblaster.

Anyway, anyone have any luck? Unfortunately VM doesn't list a link to drivers on their support page, only to Audigy cards it seems, so it is a bit outdated.

I'm also having a lot of audio dropouts when playing games, volume reductions for a minute or two, and lots of other sound issues. I'm getting really frustrated.

Have you considered their tech support, or perhaps verifying you have that hardware?

The soundblaster drivers are notoriously difficult to update, but we can get you going if you want to call tech support. Creative also offers several versions and revisions of this card, and we use the card they have at any given time due to supply issues from them sometimes. We do buy direct from Creative, and it should be the identical card to retail, but packed in bulk boxes to reduce trash and waste. I don't believe there is any other difference besides the packaging, based on what they tell us.

We are open Saturday from 10-4 for non-emergencies like this, and 7a to 11p weekdays. I'm sorry you are having trouble with the audio.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've installed the default X-Fi drivers a few times, changed the various modes on the cards, and still the drivers won't install. My only guess was that it was an OEM card of some type, and maybe someone on the boards new of a quick solution besides calling tech support. I'm mostly annoyed at the X-Fi. Soundblaster seems to be the default leader in sound cards, yet I always wonder why I went and got their card as they seem to have more problems then other hardware I've had.

I'll give tech support a call later. Thanks.

I had the same problem with my Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer...Sadly, mine was OEM so no support from Creative. I just gave up and went with my onboard.
