I need a cellphone... and i need a decent plan that won't cost me much...

was checking out pay as you go phones

i was looking at ampd.com for amp'd mobile.. then had a look at they're go phones and that interested me a bit.

then looked a cingulars pay as you go plans.. they're the same i think. but amp'd mobile had only 3 phones to pick from yet.. still look pretty nice.

then i checked out helio.com .. and checked out there cheapest plan and that excited me a bit cause they're phones look pretty cool and it was like 500 min for 40 bucks a month..

now realistically speaking now.. say i pick pay as you go phone.. im looking at..a cheaper solution if i don't talk as much right?.. but say i want to endulge myself a bit.. and go with helio.. what's my monthly bill gunna look at.. if i stay within the 500 min zone.. will my monthly bill be 40 bucks a month as intended or is there "secret fees"?

can someone help me out with this.. i'm really quite a noob at the cellphone business cuase.. im an insociable teen that likes to sit in front of the computer all day :D

I think the biggest thing these days is who is your friends using as their cell service mostly? Almost everyone I know is on Verizon, so I save a lot with in network calling being unlimited, so I only use 100-200 peak minutes and 300-400 in network that all free.

So see who your friends are using and see if that company has a similar offering.

Yea this is important. I've had sprint for a while now and a good amount of my friends are on it. It is a free call for them(I have 3000 minutes so I don't care). Most everyone elce is on verizon though. Another thing to look at is if you are going to talk to a few people most of the time. A few providers are starting service where you can have a list of a few people who are unlimited to you no matter who there phone is through. One of my friends has this and it is nice because his gf is on verizon and he is not.

True network effects are the number 1 reason to go with a particular provider. I am currently with sprint, and so are many of the individuals I call.

HOWEVER... I am switching to t-mobile. Mostly for the Dash phone, but also because they let me put 5 people regardless of service on my most called list. So I can call those 5 as many times as I want as if they were within the same service provider.

Go phones are overrated. I had one to start with and ended up not calling anyone for fear of having no minutes when I needed them.

I have now been with Sprint for around 2 years, and couldnt be happier. For me when I started I got a good plan (300 reg minutes, 100 txt's, basic phone internet, free nights, weekends, and long distance.) Once I bought the phone my plan was right around $55.00 a month. I never had to worry about running out of minutes, and if I happen to go over they only charge me 2 - 3 bux for another 50 - 80 minutes or something like that.

Just shop around, the big companies all have plans that are affordable. If you do decide on a go phone, be sure to find out whose network they run on and what happens when your out of minutes.
