I'm doing some research for my project for school and I just want some people's opinions and thoughts on it.
Why is linux a hot unix modern these days?
Why are we using it, and what is the purpose for unix users.
Thanks

...What?
1.) I don't get this question at all. Please rephrase.
2.) What does the second part mean? Why do Unix users use Unix? Or why is there a need for Unix users? Please clarify.

I have no idea what a 'hot unix modern' is, but I admit that I rather like the phrase :p

It's definitely much better than an ugly unix modern, that's for damn sure.

q: Why has linux become the primary unix derivitive?
a: Becouse it has support for more hardware then most. Also this has prompted big companies like Redhat, Novell, IBM, and others to dump alot of code and money into projects of there own. It is these big companies that have largely driven the adoption of Linux.... Also there are other projects like Apache which is largely cross-platform, but also work with linux, that drive the web as we know it today.
q: Why do people use Linux, and not Windows?
a: It's different for many people so I can only answer for myself. I find windows to be far to controlling. It has been designed to do what MS wants you to do. It is the very nature of a GUI. After all you can only fitso much onone screen. GUI's are inherently limited becouse of that. MS dropped support for it's CLI, which was never really all that functional to begin with, and forces it's substandard GUI down your throat. There is very severe limitation on how windows can be used.... As a matter of fact it can't be used, it uses you...... I use Linux becouse it allows ME to use my computer how I want to use. It allows me the freedom to have my computer do what I want it to do, not theother way around as it is inwindows.

By the way, Linux distributions are not a derivative of the original Unix, simply Unix like. The only relation Linux distros have to the original Unix code base is from borrowing BSD code (which was based on Unix).
Not trying to be picky, simply pointing out a possible problem in the choice of words.

Dude, don't come here asking the people of this forum to do your homework for you. Go visit Google and apply some critical thinking skills.
