I just read this in an issue of MaximumPC, and I have to admit, I wasn't aware of it. For anyone running Windows Defender, if you go under Tools, you will see a link for Software Explorer. This tool gives you a better breakdown, and more information, on processes set to run at boot. This might be helpful for those trying to disable thingsfrom running at boot, but weren't sure what some of the apps do, or what they are a part of. Software Explorer also let's you see actual running processes as well. I never knew this tool was included in Windows Defender.

I like this, much more informative than msconfig.

. This might be helpful for those trying to disable thingsfrom running at boot, In the 'Run' Box type wbemtest.
You will get a box. Click on connect.
There will be root/default......
change this to root/cimv2
hit the 'Enter' key on your keyboard.
The box that comes up will have a bunch of buttons.....
click on Enum Classes
Select recursive (below) and click OK
You will get a large listing of items....
go down that list to Win32_StartupCommand
double click it.
Then click on the Instances button to the right.
The listing you get shows what is starting when you start your system.

While I'm sure that works, as I followed your steps, the point of my post was to give an easier, or better way of doing this. Even the plain old MSconfig is easier for people to use than all of that. The reason why I posted the info about Software Explorer, is for the number of threads in the past that have asked if something is safe to delete or not. MSConfig gives very little info about each process.

i use this program on a regular basis to find and remove viri and adware .. it works great cause you can actually kill indiv threads that are part of an application!

works great for stopping unwanted adware in it's trax while your trying to find out how to remove it

and i love how you can have individual graphs for each application/excutable and even see how much each thread is using!
