Website icons disappear from favorites?

I'm sure this is an old problem since I've had it since I don't know when. I've heard of other people with the problem, but I've never seen the answer anywhere.

Internet explorer shows website icons next the the name of the site in your favorites list. For some reason they all disappear and you get the dumb IE "e" icon in front of them.

Why is this and how do I stop it??

If I add a new favorite the icon stays around for a couple days and then gets replaced.

"the icon files (.ico) are saved in one of the temporary directories and as the cache is cleared out, the icons go with it. He suggests copying the icon files to another directory and then re-linking the bookmark to the new icon file."

This fix has worked for me, but it is a lot of work for art in the favorites folder.

Thanks for that answer! It clears up a few things.

it also says I'm going to keep my generic icons because I'm too lazy to transfer all the links to a different directory and update my shortcuts to point to them.
