Windows XP x64
1) No flash (in 64-bit browsers)
2) No java (in 64-bit browsers)
3) iTunes incompatibility
4) It's detected as Server 2003 - Some programs refuse to install (Avid Xpress student version) or work wonky-like after they ARE installed.
5) No real benefit to running x64 vs. 32-bit XP + SP2.
Think they'll fix it before Vista x64 comes out? Will MS accept XP x64 as an upgrade path to Vista?

XP64 was only ever released as a proof-of-concept product...to show what 64 bit computing "could" do in the right situations. It's support is about as good as it's going to get. Developers were supposed to take that as a sign to start thinking about their apps in terms of 64 bit OSes. Vista may be the first OS released that's a legitimate 64 bit platform (Windows-based, calm down, Linux guys). That's why so many of us go frustrated with all the "My stuff doesn't work on XP64" threads. There's isn't anything going on in a typical desktop envinroment now that needs or benefits from having a 64 bit OS. Maybe that will change with Vista 64, but honestly, I see that being more than a year off...if not long.

It seems, alot of devs are not bothering with XP64, with Vista around the corner... Very few new computers seem to be shipping with Xp64.. Is prolly part of the reason..

This is just one "feeling" but my x64 build while not the most compatible has been the most stable Windows OS for me so far.

I had no complaints about the stability. Never a single freeze or crash. And it actually supported my 4GB of RAM (VERY useful for VMWare), unlike the 32-bit version I'm using now.

I know you didn't....I was just saying that while it has compatibility issues at least it is more stable than previous versions....which is a feather in its cap.

In order:
1) True, and it sucks since 64bit IE & custom 64bit Firefox builds are noticeably faster than their 32bit counterparts IMO.
2) Yep
3) The new Itunes is working fine for me, except for some reason my 5th gen iPod won't accept the new 1.2 firmware.
4) I've had no problems with that yet.
5) I disagree. The OS does feel a bit snappier and you can get x64 cheaper than XP Pro.
Count me in as one who has not had any major probems yet, after using it for 6 months :)

I've been using x64 almost since it came out. Its rock stable and fast compared to xp, unfortunately there are still compatibility issues and lack of driver support.
From what I've seen vista64 is not going to be much better. It will still have the same compatibility problems and even worse driver support.

x64 has been pretty solid for me, once I got some driver issues sorted out. Never had any real problems with programs not working - only one that didn't was my symantec AV corporate edition. Every now and again the system BSOD's on boot but I'm willing to chalk it up to drivers being wonky (haven't bothered investigating it) since it's always rock solid under load.

and this is the reason when I make my new system at the end of nx month when the Os's are getting installed it will be:
32bit windows
64bit Linux
