My WD 80 has SMART Errors, and I need to get alot of info off of it.
Is there a program to get around this error to retrieve the information that I need?

My gf's harddrive recently had SMART problems and would no longer boot. I solved it by plugging it into an external USB enclosure. Since it wasn't being used as the boot drive there was less stress on it and I managed to make an image of the drive using Acronis before it crapped out completely.

I got it to boot once this morning thats how I found out it was the drive. And Ghost pretty much said "Hell no your F'd try again". You said you used Acronis? Which ver?
And did it get the whole image to the new drive?

I used the free trial version of Acronis, I don't know the full name of the product, I think it was Acronis Trueimage home or something similar. It did work perfectly and I imaged the replacement harddrive and everything worked great.
Keep in mind I took the drive out of the computer and was not using it as a boot drive. This is what allowed me to use this method. I would stop booting off the drive as it causes a lot of stress during boot and every second you use your dying harddrive is one second closer to it no longer working.
An external enclosure will run you 20 bucks or less at your local bestbuy, compusa, or whatever is near you. Then you can just return it when you're done.

Try ghost again and turn on the switches to "ignore bad sectors" or something like that.

I reecently had a smart error, and it seemed to be solved by unplugging all the cables and reseating them, i used a little compressed air to blow out any dust and the drives work just fine now. Hopefully this may work for you.
