Does the data rate depend on the size of a transfer? Say you plotted a graph from size of transfer of 1 byte to 32MB, what would it look like in general?

well there is a difference between burst data rates and sustained data rates. plus there is a difference between read and write rates.

Atto does the benchmark that you are looking for. I am pretty sure that HDDs read at least one sector (512 bytes) for each request, meaning that for any requests that are <512bytes, the 'response time' would be constant, therefore the transfer rate will increast linearly between 1-512 bytes, given that the request of that size is always withing a single sector.

OK. I just wanted to confirm that there is always a 'sweet' spot in terms of file size.
