I'm thinking of buying a notebook computer for a relative over seas, and was wondering if it were possible to do an overhaul of the language of the operating system. Perhaps there are language "packs" that do this? Or would I have to hunt down a version of Windows with that specific language preinstalled?

There is the MUI, it supports 33 additional interface languages in the english version of Windows (2000 and newer).
However, I have no clue how you get acquire it, unless you have a VLK agreement.

What language are you looking for? I don't recall ever hearing of a language called "overseas" anywhere. Specify, because the answer may depend on which language support you need.

Polish
Let me check with a friend of mine. She's from Poland and currently living in Luxemburg, but pretty fluent in a few languages. Let me ask her what packs she uses.
As for built-in support, there is some Polish support but it is not the best.

Ugh, sorry about that! My friend has been incommunicado for the last week or two, and now she's in the States attending a convention in California. As soon as I get in touch with her I'll try to get info.

I'll be buying a laptop in the U.S. and sending it to my cousin in Poland... or maybe this could be a good English-learning experience for her :p
But if there is a way to change the language, I'd really like to know. Also, staying with XP Home, if possible. Pro is expensive.
