I just ordered a x2 4600+ to replace my 3700+. I currently use a ThermalTake Silent K8 939 cpu cooler. Should i keep using this cooler or use the stock amd cooler that comes with the x2?

The X2's come with a very good heatpipe cooler (very good for an oem sink) and I would use that over any Thermaltake junk. Just my opinion..
i would invest in better cooling but the stock heatpipe cooler on the higher end X2s are good if your running the cpu stock. overclocking is a another thing and dual core cpus get hotter than single core cpus.

Well the thermaltake one is heatpipe as well with a copper block and 11 blade fan..

I'd go with the stock heatsink with the fan from the Thermaltake, if it will fit.

The 3800+ is the only one that doesn't come with one for some reason..

Its now summer and ive overclocked it to 2.77 normally but ive had to kick it back to 2.6 and it idles at about 40 - 41 and 59c on full load. Im using the stock cooling material with the stock x2 4600+ heatsink with the fan off my thermaltake silent k8 cooler. Im looking at getting some as5 and zalman 9500 , would it be worth it?

Nice OC. I went with water cooling and dont regret it one bit. My 4600 idles at 30 and loads at 42-43.

mal's stock answer = water
Either the AC Freezer 64 Pro or the Zalman 9700.

The AC freezer doesnt look like its got many heatpipes or has a great fan would it be much of an upgrade over the x2 heatpipe hs with the thermaltake fan on top?

i don't think you can change the arctic freezer 64 pro's fan. IMO you don't need to. The AC 64 pro is a great heatsink, it cools well, and its quiet.

I use a Zalman 9500 AM2 sink and it keeps my overclocked X2 decently cool 50-53C load. check sig for overclock info. If you have the room I would go for the 9700 it is a little bit bigger and cools better than the 9500..... just my $.02

I got a thermaltake shark case and a asus a8n-e motherboard.. would a zalman 9700 fit?

Um i got a 7950gx2 in my pcie slot which is pretty big , would the zalman 9700 be to big for a a8n-e board?
Heatsink wise I heard the Ninja Scythe (Whatever you call it) and the Xp-120 are good. Also the TT big typhoon.
I have a 4600+ Overclocked to 2.70 Ghz, My Vcore is 1.40 and my DDR VOltage is 2.7
So you should get around 2.70 Ghz or more because of your different Motherboard and RAM. My Load Temp is 45C
Happy OCing to you.
(I still have to play around and see if I can get it higher)

I can get 2.77ghz on stock voltages if i lower the htt to x4 but since its summer now its to hot >.< does any1 know if the 9700 will fit?

Well i just got it and it does fit fine , ive got the fan on low and load temp is only 44 degrees with my air con on , goes upto about 51 without it tho , since it does get to over 40 degree days here. Not bad for a 2.77ghz overclock on stock voltage.... the fans at 2080rpm so its not on its lowest.
ps the 9700 makes alot of noise if u just plug it into the board without fan mate to lower it.
