Just looking into Samsung 50 inch DLP rear projection TVs... and I see this beautiful new model line that just came out recently, their 1080p HL-S5087W, going for close to $2k at some online stores. Then I see the same thing with 1080i and no 1080p for a few hundred less (HL-S5086W). For a 50" display is it going to be worth getting the 1080p?
Thanks
Brian

Yes if you wish to use the 1080p mode.
1080i effectively halves the vertical resolution as it is interlaced.

no since there is no really TV content on 1080p. Well at least in Canada that is.

The 5086 is a 720p display and the 5087 is a 1080P display.
1080p is always preferable regardless of size, it is the only way you can display 1080i content at full resolution on these displays. Also most 1080i film content (movies) de-interlaces perfectly into 1080p24, which is to say there is a fair bit of 1080p content out there.

All I found was IMAX movie, movie trailer and some tv shows such as Band of Brother (nearly 8GB for the first episode only) :p
720p still do an awesome job (better tan 1080i) ;)
