Does anyone realize WD re-released the WD360GD with the new hardware and firmware.
So now either 36GB Raptor can keep up with the 74GB's.
The 16mb Cache on the ADFD's do help though.
I ordered a WD360ADFD but they shipped a new GD on accident so I figured why not test it whle I had it!
I'll be posting graphs and such tonight.
Other then HDTach, would anyone like to see other benchmarks?

If you could do some game level load times, thatd be great. Along with a windows boot.
But, I know thats alot of trouble involved..PCMark05 Lets you do XP startup MB/s, so that would probably be easier for you.
So now your saying the 36gb had 16mb cache and is supposed to be as fast as both the 150 and 74? hmm..

The 36GB Raptor has 2 generations and 3 variances
1st Gen- WD360GD-???? The Very first Raptor
2nd Gen- WD360GD-FLC00 Released at the same time as the 2nd gen 74GB Raptor (the 16mb cache version)
WD360ADFD-FLC00 Released same time as the 2nd gen 8mb cache version, this one has 16mb cache
From what I can tell, Both 36's are faster then 740GD, but the 740ADFD is faster then them all maybe?
Some preliminary test scores I wrote down last night:
WinXP boots in just 10 seconds (does not include Bios loading time, my bios alone take 5-10 seconds)
HDTach:
Avg Read: 58.5MB/s
Seek Time: 7.0ms
125.4MB/s (this score was on the little blue/red bar on the graph, forgot what it means)
SiSoftware:
Drive Index: 60MB/s
Seek Time: 6.9ms
Random Access Time: 7ms
Full Stroke Access Time: 9ms
PcMark05:
XP Startup- 10.5MB/s
Physics- 123.16FPS
3D-98
3.0 P4 OC'd to 3.36
1.5GB Supertalent DDR400
WD360GD-FLC00
ATI x800GTO-Sapphire
I was able to format (NTFS the long way, low-level format) in 8minutes, and it installed windows xp pro (sp1) in a mere 14mins!

So what drive do you have exactly? A WD360GD - FLC0? Is there any way you can verify that it has 16MB of cache, since I cannot find that drive on the WD website:
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=40
http://support.wdc.com/productspec.asp
I cannot find any mention of a WD360GD with 16Mb of cache. I see plenty of info about the WD360ADFD with 16MB cache. While I am not doubting you, I would like to see some backup.

where did you buy a WD360ADFD?
A local shop got a bunch from WD, the warranty started at the beginning of this month and is good for 5 years.
(They weren't made years ago and sat on a shelf)
