I just bought a used server off of eBay with 4 hot swap scsi mobile racks. Not even thinking, I never asked the guy if he had the keys for them. Well I got the server and the drives are locked and he doesn't have the key. Anyone know of a way to get replacements or unlock them from the inside, etc?
If it's got those locks with the barrel shape and a little nub, they're generic and you can use any key that has the right sized barrel. You should be able to find a variety of them around cheaply unless you know the exact size. I have a whole keyring with them in all sizes.

Well see I've tried a bunch of keys that are the same sized and they wouldn't fit all the way in so I thought it might have some special notches on them for a specific key. I was under the impression that were generic but I tried the key I had for the door on my Chieftec case and it doesn't work... :(

ask a local locksmith? I am pretty sure that these locks are 'easy' to pick.

have you tried the bic pen method? often you can heat up (just) the barrel of the pen and then shove that into the lock and turn. You probably should google for a better description.

Just for clarification, the lock looks just like this

I couldn't get the pen or the cardboard trick to work so instead I took the whole thing out and then slipped the hard drives out. From there I took the "frames" and dremeled the locking mechanism off. Drives dont lock anymore but that doesn't bother me.

That works too, sometimes the best results come from BF&I. (brute force and ignorance) I have used that method on occasion.
