I just wanted to preempt the thread that is bound to come here:
Q: What is the best HDD for my Conroe build?
A: The WD raptor, either at 150GB or at 74GB, WD1500ADFD or WD740ADFD respectivley.
glad we got that done with.

The WD360ADFD is probably just as good, if not faster.
Getting one tonight, will post results later this week.

What does a hard drive have to do with a CPU? I can understand wanting to know what memory or motherboard work work the best with Conroe, but HDs are completely unrelated. One does not depend on the other like in the mobo/mem example.
Also it would be subjective to the user's needs and budget. IF funding wasn't an issue I would take one of the 750 drives as they are faster that raptors in some circumstance, plus hold considerably more.
Anyway this post is basically an abitrary "what I want" post...

I have a WD1600ADFD sitting over there in my test-rig. It certainly is not a "what I want" post.

I think they only work with SATA-II cables ;)
thanks, at least someone got it :D

d00d, spend over $300 for two of those R4pt0rs in RAID-0 so that when you're done running 3DMark you can amaze your friends with your huge HDTach score and show how l33t you are

Huh? Do you mean WD1500ADFD? If this is the case you must have wanted it in order to purchase, no? Maybe I should have stated "arbitrary want and/or have post".

The WD1600ADFD is an OEM SKU that ships to Dell and the like.
The 16MB Raptors have 80GB platters, but they are short stroked to ~75GB so that their capcity will match SCSI counterparts while offering unusually high inner zone linear transfer performance.
The 80 and 160GB units Dell sells have all of the platter area available.
