Are there any PCIe IDE cards out there (2+ ports)?
Are the onboard IDE/SATA on the PCI bus?
Is the onboard gigabit lan on the PCI bus? (gigabyte 939 Nforce4-SLI based board)
My current setup is as follows:
On-board controllers
SATA 0 - 250GB WD (OS)
SATA 1 - 400GB WD (Storage)
SATA 2 - 400GB WD (Storage)
SATA 3 - Open
PATA 0 (Master) - Samsung DVD+/-RW (Master)
PATA 0 (Slave) - Open
PATA 1 (Master) - 300GB Segate (Music/Backup)
PATA 1 (Slave) - Open
PCI Promise ATA 100TX2
PATA 0 (Master) - 400GB Segate (Movies1)
PATA 0 (Slave) - 400GB Segate (Movies2)
PATA 1 (Master) - 400GB Segate (Movies3)
PATA 1 (Slave) - 400GB Segate (Movies4)
When copying stuff from another machine over the network (gigabit) if I do anything with the drives on the PCI card the transfer slows to a crawl (even though its going to another drive not on the controller). I am only seeing 20-30% utilization of the gigabit connection max. I'm thinking if I could move the drives over to the PCIe bus there would be less chance of saturating the PCI bus.
