View Full Version : Can't get Vista to install.. won't see my hard disk :(

My system:
Intel 805D, 2.66 OC'ed to 3.6
ASUS P5WD2-E
2 gigs ram
1x 160GB 10k dell/WD HDD
2x 250gb WD, raid 0
...
Anyways, perviously I've been running windows XP on the RAID 0 drives. I just got in my 10k drive and wanted to have my OS's on it, and the games and stuff on the RAID. I moved the RAID drives to SATA ports 2 and 3, and the new drive to SATA 1.. Windows XP still started up fine when I told the bios to boot from the raid.. however, when [trying to] install Vista 64bit, I can not get it to detect *any* drive. I've even tried removing the raid (ya.. destroyed the data on the raid drives, but I backed up incase I had to do that) and having the drives as regular SATA drives and the installation still can not detect them. When I try loading drivers, it says they could not be installed..
Can anyone help me find the 'raid driver disk' that will work for the Intel ICH7 chipset and Vista 64bit.. I've tried the ones on the CD that came with the motherboard.. I've also tried some I was able to find on Intels site.. still no go :(

Thats all well and good.. but the ASUS P5WD2-E Premium motherboard doesn't use a nForce based chipset..

Google power.. found something that may help someone to.. help me?
from a newegg customer review..
I have tried Windows Vista 64 bit Beta 2 and it seems to have all the drivers included and is running ok.You still need to load Intel 64 bit RAID Drivers though, . Overall a future looking board solidly built and a worthy purchase for Intel power users.
Ok.. they include the drivers, but I still have to load them? Is there some special way to do that? If I just do the 'install additional drivers' option, it just says it didn't find any..

^^ yuppres
for my dell XPS600 (which is nforce 4), i had to use the SATA raid drives for it to pick up my single raptor drive even thought raid was not turned on.
just put your raid drivers on a CD or removable drive and load em when Vista asks if you need to add the drivers.

thats the problem.. I have the drive.. I select it.. and then it comes up with "The [Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (C:\iastor.inf)] device driver could not be installed. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media.

omfg.. I'm getting such a headache.. I went through the INF's.. everything looks good.. the .OEM file for the drivers was looking for 'disk1'.. which I didn't have.. so I removed that, but still getting the same message, so now I gotta try to find where that disk1 comes from.. :(
Edit: maybe someone can answer this.. as I can not for the life of me find intel vista beta drivers.. which ones should I be using. I can find the following.. XP64, Win server 2003 64, win 2000 64.. I've been tring to use the XP 64 drivers, and it's giving me that message...

omfg.. well.. apparenlty the first time you do the 'add addition drivers' thing.. if it fails to 'add' the driver you select it still cache's it... so even though I put in a new usb stick, and then the CD rom.. it still used the driver it originall tried...
wow... just... wow.. wasted like 5 hrs ><
anyways.. installing vista now.. after I play around with it Im going to install win XP again (the restore I did earlier is causing weird problems, so just gonna redo it from scratch..) am I going to run into problems with booting after I install win xp? i.e. having no choice to boot vista?

Not to piggy back on your other thread, but if you ditched the RAID0 over-hyped BS, you wouldn't have had a problem installing Vista. Intel chipsets don't need any special drivers loaded for using the SATA ports in normal mode.
