I have no idea what caused this or when it started, because the last time I had reason to check it was working fine (although my best guess is when I reformatted/reinstalled Windows in May, no hardware changes immediately before or since). In Network Connections, I used to have 3 icons: a Local Area Connection (onboard LAN), Wireless Connection (PCI Linksys card), and 1394 Net Adpater (PCI firewire card). I wanted to change some of the properties on my LAN connection, but when I went into Network Connections, only the Wireless Connection was listed there. My internet connection was fine, ipconfig showed information relating to my onboard LAN, but nothing I did could get it to show up in Network Connections. I found the following while trying to get it to work:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825826 -- I tried all 17 steps (except for the few that didn't apply), but nothing
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254631/ -- This describes the problem I'm having, but is for 2000 (so didn't do it)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894543/en-us -- Found this but didn't to it; requires MS to send a hotfix
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329050/en-us -- Similar to the first link but for 2000 again

During trying to fix all this, Windows randomly blue screened once with a "Stop 0x0000000A Irql_Not_Less_or_Equal" error message, so I took out the wireless and firewire cards to hopefully solve the problem, but it didn't help.

If anyone has any suggestions/ideas on things to try next (short of a reformat/reinstall), please let me know. Here's some of my hardware:

Asus A8N-E Mobo
Nvidia 7800 GTX (PCI-E)
3 WD SATA Hard drives
Linksys WMP11
Ultra 3-port Firewire card
