I am thinking about fooling around with shell replacements and I just want to hear what you guys think about them first.

Although linux offers almost every concivable style of shell, windows does not support them very well at all. I have tried llitestep and blackbox for windows, I have even used windowblinds. But, I always end up goign back to the default shell, because mroe stuff actually works. Of the alternatives though, Litestep is probably the best. I did not have too many problems with it, and there are themes galore.

Are you guys referring to shells that work with any extra software, like the Royale XP theme?

Or, are you talking about WindowsBlinds, etc. shells, that need third-party software?

bash for me too. Mostly because I'm very used to it.

@phantom skip: Bash does exist for windows. Check out cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/).

Personally, after having used WindowBlinds, ThemeXP, and now Aston, I still haven't found one that doesn't just annoy me, and isn't a step backward from the smooth-enough workflow of standard XP.

All I want is something like the Royale XP theme that shows up in your standard Display Properties themes list, and doesn't try to change anything, or add "features", or run extra apps. If one word can sum up the overall experience of XP theme apps, it's, in my personal experience, "inconventient".
