I have an old IBM laptop. The Windows 98 install is so messed up, I tried to install 2000. Unfortunately, the stupid computer had a 800Mb hard drive, nowhere big enough for 2000. So I put in an old 8Gb laptop drive I have and the computer will not let me boot off the CD drive to install Windows. What should I do? The computer has no floppy drive, by the way...

No floppy drive? That means making the standard Windows 2000 setup boot disks is out...
You can try making a Boot CD (not sure how to go about this for Windows 2000) or try and see if you can unzip the boot disks onto a USB thumbdrive and boot from there.

The cd in the drive is the standard Windows 2000 bootdisk, it will not boot from it. I just found an external floppy, where can I get the images I need for the floppies? BTW- this thing has no USB or network connectors, so network boot or usb boot are out of the question. It is called the craptop for a reason :(

You'll need to build them from the included files on the Windows 2000 CD.
1) Get four 1.4MB floppy disks formated and ready to go.
2) Navigate to "X:\BOOTDISK\" on the Windows 2000 CD.
3a) Run the program "MAKEBT32.EXE", it will guide you through the rest of the process.
3b) If running in MSDOS Mode, run the program "MAKEBOOT.EXE" instead.
BTW, if the laptop has no USB Ports, how are you pluging in the external floppy drive?

Alright, I am gonna go do that now. Thanks a ton for your help.
The external floppy is some wierd interface, looks sorta like an ultra-mini scsi connector or something. Stupid old computers...
