I got an old computer from a friend, and it has windows 98, but I dont have any disks and would like to format it, how would I get a disk? I have a license and key, all I need is a disk.

Look no further than bootdisk.com (http://www.bootdisk.com/) for all your bootdisk needs.

If you can find a copy to download, it is OK as long as you are using a legit key..

NOS software. Cost more than than just borrowing one, but it's an option.
These guys showed up on a pricewatch search:

How much RAM do you have? It needs at least 128MB.
You could try Xubuntu.

Try Damn Small Linux.. Not as user freindly as win98 or even unbuntu, but for websurfing, email, and other light stuff it would be fine..

Whats wrong with the bootdisk's on bootdisk.com?

Here's the direct link to the Windows 98 SE bootdisk:
http://www.msu-hb.de/download/boot98se.exe

Run that program with a blank floppy in your drive and it will make the disk for you.

That's irresponsible advice.

No it's not. It's not illegal w hatsoever to have/use burned copies, if you have a legit license, even if you download them from say, through bittorrent. You can use a program such as Belarc Advisor, and it will give you the CD Key used for the installation, in which you can use with the media should you get ahold of it.

So is borrowing a cd unless he happens to have a COA with the machine. Anyway I'm sure you can pick one up cheap if you look around. Or go with the irresponsible advice and borrow one.

you dont even need a 3rd party app to get teh cdkey from win98...just open regedit and search for "productkey" (without the quotes ofcourse) and in a few sec's it will pull it up. I remember old retail versions of Win95 could install with all 1's as the cdkey

You do have a point there.. Didn't think of it whilst I was posting.. Borrow a copy from someone, downloading it, unless it was a file share from some one you trust, would prolly not be a good idea....

I found a friend with a windows 98 disk and got everything to work, but I would like to make a copy of the disk so I dont have to borrow one all the time, is this legal? and if it is, how do I do it, because I assume its protected.
