View Full Version : Controller choice?

I'm RMA-ing my Highpoint RocketRAID 2220 to ZZF. I'm a little ticked that I spent so much time trying to get it to work, and I'd like to just get a refund for my money, and invest in a different controller. I'm almost at the point where I would be willing to drop $600 on an Areca ARC-1220. I don't need RAID-6 or any of the fancy features, but from everything I've heard from everyone I've spoken to, Areca's the top of the line when it comes to SATA RAID. However, I would like some sort of comparision between the following controllers before I make my choice.

~$550 Areca ARC-1220
~$400 LSI 300-8X
~$250 HighPoint 2320

Originally, the plan was to just store anime on there, but FRAPS seems to be having some issues recording at a steady 30FPS @ 800x600, and I believe it may be HDD limited (My Raptor isn't fast enough? OMGWTFBBQ!) so I would also like something which can support a rediculously high STR in a RAID-5/6 configuration. Advice? Comments? Suggestions? Links?

be prepared to complain to ZZF for giving you a restocking fee for a failed device. their return policy is pretty vague on defective merchandise. if u have problems with their restocking fee, complain on reseller ratings and you will get that 15% restocking fee refunded. i spend 2-3 months trying to get $7.xx from them for an acrylic case that was not dremelled properly (or at all for that matter). i stated i should deserve the money back because it was a defective item and their return policy does not state defective items are subject to the same return policy of a 15% restocking fee. just giving u the heads up so u dont have to deal with the headaches later.

as u can tell, a month later after this whole debacle, im still pissed. i will never use ZZF ever again. newegg FTW

Just got my RMA email. They want a 15% restocking fee. I told em in a response exactly how I feel about that. Thanks for the warning. Looks like I'm going somewhere else for my controller purchase.

if u do get a restocking fee, just go to reseller ratings and complain about it. u'll get the refund for the purchase, and not the shipping costs.

like i said in my previous post, ZZF lost me as a customer because of their vague policy
