i don't think that it's possible to add a spare drive to a RAID-0 array.What exactly would it do? mirror one of the two striped drives? If the other fails, you are still screwed. Parity information? That'd be RAID-4 then and your drive would no longer be a spare. Also the write performance would be decreased.

so theres no RAID that i can create that would increase my read / write speed with only 1 extra drive.

well, if you want more STR, you can have a 3-drive RAID-0 array, I think.

3 drive R0 is certainly possible. But expanding would kill everything on the array without OCE.
