I got the drive out of the box and reformatted it to NTFS. Everything went smoothly and I started to transfer data to the drive. After I put ~40 gigs of data on there i deceided to check it out. The drive kept crashing my sytem after trying to view the files. Here is what i have experienced:

1) I cant see the files if I go to my computer and click on the drive, I have to right click and use explore to see the files. Once in the drive, trying to open a folder/file will cause 100% processor usage and lock up my system.

I finally got to transfer about 14 gigs back onto my main slave but during the transfer an error occured. Now my slave drive acts the same way as the WD. I cannot see the files unless I "explore" for them and once I get to them the system locks up and I have the end the process to get my computer back in order. Sometimes I can access files such as mp3s but bigger mpgs cause the system to lock up and I have to ctrl alt del my way out of it.

I have run norton disk utilities and XP chkdsk and everything seems to be in order. Any ideas of what is going on and how I can combat it? Thanks

edit: i can access the slave drive (my internal) by clicking on it thru my computer, but even if i just let it sit and just leave the E: drive open the system will go to 100% processor use wihtout trying to access any files. It takes about 3-4 seconds and then it starts to go nuts. Also I have 2 slaves and the only one that is affected is the drive that I transferred files from the WD external to. Thanks for any help.

Did you install WDs tools with it? I had this problem with one of their external drives a few weeks ago and found that the software supplied on the CD REALLY hated NTFS but the one I downloaded from WD fixed the problem
