If I set up a RAID array on 2 20.5 gig HDDs and then add another drive outside the array would it hamper any possible performance from the array?
See I got 2 20.5 quantum fireball drives that I think I might try a RAID 0 array with them and install my OS on that and use my 80 maxtor for extra storage space, but I prolly wont to any of this is the 80 gig drives is going to slow down the array.

So, what do yo u think?

Will it slow them down? No. The thing is that you really will not notice a preformance increace of a raid 0. You can look through the forums for the info.

Depending on which generation that 80GB drive is (got a model number?) it is likely to perform better than the proposed RAID-0 array in most real-world situations that a computer gamer encounters.

If you do indeed look through the forums for the info, you should find that the performance gain from RAID 0 is dependent on a lot of factors: application and system configuration are the two most important factors. It's not correct to say that RAID 0 gives never gives a performance benefit.
