I have an Abit IC7 mothterboard, which has SATA 1. Bestbuy has a good price on the WD 250 SATA 2 drive today ($89), and I am thinking of getting it.

I have read that I need to change a setting or jumper, to make the drive work on the motherboard. Can someone clarify? Will I have any other issues?

I also noted in the BIOS, that there are a few different settings for the SATA. I can make it auto, or Combined, or Enhanced. Does it make a difference? I want this new drive to be my boot drive (I plan to reinstall xp pro), and I want my other drives to be there for additional storage.

Thanks!!

Steve

SATA II is backwards compatible with SATA I. So you don't have to worry about that part.

But go into your bios and make sure SATA support is turned on. Also install SATA drivers for your mobo. Go to Abit's website and they should have SATA drivers for your mobo.
