Vista temp folder download for IE

Just wondering if vista has fixed the way IE downloads files into the temporary folder in the C drive, and then after it is completed it has to RE-COPY the entire file back into another directory. is the download direct now?

eg. for now i use firefox to download files to the F drive because it is direct. if i use IE, it will download the file into the c drive temp dir, then re-copy the file into F drive which is a real pain for large files.

It's not a function of Vista, it's how IE6/7 handles the download. And it still works the same way in IE7 as in IE6. It's never bugged me since it only takes a few seconds to copy it to the destination directory.

There was a time I had to download a Linux DVD image via IE and that took FOREVER.

and by the way, why don't you use a download manager? I dont suppose the download manager will copy teh file to C: first then into teh directory that you want.

you must download relatively small files. I feel the OP's pain. There was a time I had to download a Linux DVD image via IE and that took FOREVER.I rarely download anything larger than a full CD ISO directly (I get 4GB Linux ISOs on BitTorrent), but i often download files that are a few hundred MB in size. But even 600MB ISOs usually only take 20 seconds or so to move from temp to the destination directory. Compared to how long it takes to download at 1.5Mbps (70 minutes), 20 seconds longer is nothing. :p

People dismiss RAID0 easily, but 90-110MB/s sustained transfer speeds come in handy if you move around large files a lot. :D
