I have an older laptop with 60gig hd, 1.6 intel proc, 1gb cheap ram, and castrated mobility 9700 radeon.
Id like to install win98se on to in order to play older games, and winxp for regualr use. My question is how many gigs of harddrive space is enough for win98se to hold games? Ive never created multiboot before, so I guess I'll come back here if I run into problems.

Does it matter if its GSX or ESX? I came across several VMware Server's.

It kind of depends on the games, but I would go 20/40 98/XP. Are you sure they won't just play in compatability mode though?

Yeah I tried everything, mechcommander gold wont even install under xp, same with fallout 2, gotta have dos or something, carmageddon/splatpack will only run in softwaremode which likes like shit - highresolution 3d dos shortcut wont work under xp, so I want to save myself some headaches and just run those games under 98se. So yeah, basically the 98se will be my gaming partition and Ill use xp partition for everything else.

Ah, thanks, So how does it work? I install the server version under xp, then run it, then what? I install 98se into the server? then the games?

that's what I'd try. worst thing that can happen is that it doesn't work. You can even make the "server" full screen

if these are DOS-based games cant you just create a DOS bootup disk and play them from there?
