problem: trying to install windows xp onto harddrive. my hd is a 74gb raptor, the only hd in the system. i changed the boot sequence to cd rom and disabled everything else. When it starts it says "press any key to boot from cd rom" i press the space bar, But when i pressed the key, nothing happens and my old operating system appeared. any suggestions to fix this problem? PLEASE HELP ME!



my system includes:
dfi lanparty ultra d motherboard
amd athlon 3700+
2 gb ram xms (using only one rite now)
nVidia 7800gtx
74 gb western digital raptor

sounds like it's not seeing your keyboard for some reason...
just smash down a bunch of keys and see what happens :D lol
not necessarly at the exact same time... just randomly hit a bunch of characters....

also if you're using a USB keyboard, plug in a PS2 one :)
also could try USB legacy emulation thing....
and possibly update your BIOS could fix the USB/keyboard problem.

well... the legacy thing in BIOS (I have not really ever messed with it) is supposed to make your USB device (ie Keyboard) appear as a PS2 device.

As far as BIOS... USB keyboards have only worked good in the last couple of years on the latest boards that support them. While they work in XP just fine (because of drivers), back in the BIOS and stuff like DOS they do not work well. Updating your BIOS could help alleviate this problem... espcially if your board is older and is running the first BIOS revision.

You can also get the 6 set boot disk setup from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310994) it usually gets you going with all the drivers you need to get the install going. Worth a try :)
