Some how I ended up with the wrong card. But I could have swore I was told that a PCI-X card would fit in one my PCI slots.

I ordered the Highpoint 2320 and it wont fit in any slot on my board. I have pci slots and 2 64 bit pci slots. Now what? I am sure I can return the card for a fee of course, but I need to know what to do now.

Ok I just read one of my old post and realized that there was further discussion and I have the wrong card.
Please let me know what card I need and I hope it is in the same price range.

Looks like this is about my only option.

:( Sorry about this; in this thread (http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1043279) I said go ahead without noticing the pci express versus pci-x thing; AreEss and Nn'theraq'pss pointed it out. The 3GIO guys just had to pick a name everyone was bound to abbreviate to pci-x, when that was already something else...

However, you're not stuck with the LSI card. The 2220 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16816115022) is pci-x (not express). Within 30 days (http://www.newegg.com/CustomerService/FAQDetail.asp?Module=5&Menu=detail209#xdetail209) you should be able to return it and get a refund less 15%. Even if it's store credit, that should make it fairly easy to get the right card.

Again, my bad. I should've PMed or something.

Just as an addition, PCI-X cards do work properly in regular PCI slots (although of course they're limited to the normal 133 MB/s bandwidth of regular PCI). However, I'd be willing to bet that most mobos will end up having some random component in the way of the slot "overhang" and make it not possible...sounds like that's what you have going on here.

But technically pci-x does work in pci.

Its all good Mage, I aint mad at ya... ;)

You are sure about that 2220? I emailed Newegg so I am hoping they let me exchange it, plus the restock fee. I have 5days off and wanted to get some systems built. Anyways, I like the 2220 due to the 8 ports and 3TB capacity incase I decide to add some more drives some day.

It sounds like he bought a pci-e card though, which will NOT work in a pci slot no matter what. Not all pci-x will work in pci either. It does need to support the lower signaling speeds to do that, most do, i've not seen any that don't, but as with the internet I've heard stories.

He's got a 2462, though, which has actual pci-x. I'm not worried about that working.

I am sure the 2220 will work. Other people on this forum have it working in pci slots and/or pci-x slots. Compare for yourself: here's the card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.asp?image=16-115-022-01.jpg&CurImage=16-115-022-01.jpg&Description=HighPoint%20ROCKETRAID2220%20PCI-X%20SATA%20II%20Controller%20Card%20-%20Retail), here's the slot it goes in (http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderk7.html). The reason there are only two dividers in the slot is because it only supports 5 volt signaling, not 3.3. The way this works is the motherboards put dividers in where they don't support that voltage, and the cards put spaces in only where they support that signaling rate. So if you tried to put the 9550sx (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.asp?image=16-116-032-01.jpg,16-116-032-02.jpg,16-116-032-03.jpg,16-116-032-04.jpg,16-116-032-05.jpg&CurImage=16-116-032-01.jpg&Description=3ware%209550SX-8LP%2064-bit/133MHz%20PCI-X%20SATA%20II%20Raid%20Controller%20Card%20-%20Retail) from 3ware in here, it wouldn't work; it has 5v blocked. But the Highpoint supports both 3.3 and 5v signaling, so it'll work fine.

hey on the newegg exchange thing. if you order the wrong part and then tell them you did, they will waive the restock fee if your next order, or your replacement order is more expensive then the original. just wask them what you have to do. buying 8 dollars worth of stuff is better then losing 30 or 40

If they won't take it back, I may be willing to pick it up off of you.

Thanks, but Newegg gave me a full refund and they arent charging me a restocking fee. I already ordered the 2220! That turned out good after all.
