i've recently obtained a copy of the latest vista build (5342)

i was just curious about the "performance rating." my computer scored a 5 overall rating of 5, and i wanted to know what the rating was out of? if anyone knew.

The score is out of 5. It uses some formula of all the components ratings and gives you an overall. Its supposed to be ever changing also, so a year from now, your system may score only a 4 as faster and faster components become the norm. They are hoping to use the scores on programs and games. EX: Halo 3's PC box will have a rating on it saying you need at least a 3 to run, a 5 for maximum. (just hypothetical).

I just got a copy of 5308 at work and my Compaq NC6000 Laptop got a rating of 1... hehe oops! I had heard from a Microsoft Rep that visited our company that Aero would only be available for machines with a 128MB RAM Video card but this one has 32 MB shared and yet it's running the Aero (transparent) interface just fine.

I'm impressed with this build over the September release, the install process was much cleaner and looked pretty good.

It gave my system a 3... so their system is obviously flawed.... I mean... c'mon...

Wow what were the marks against you? I'm curious what your breakout looked like...

You need Vista to run it now... but there will be another tool that you can run on any box to find the number.
