Hello. I am running a stripped down version of WinXP Pro. When I connect my Sony DSC-W7 it recognizes the camera but does not have drivers for it. On other winxp machinces it reconginzes the memory stick as a removable drive. I have tried installing the Sony USB drivers, but that hasn't worked. Does anyone know what files I need for this to work? Are they generic camera drivers, or specific memory stick drivers?

Let me guess.....this was a "stripped down version" built with Nlite? If so, this is just one more thread of many where people are left with a system less than what's needed.
You can check with Sony's website, but I've never found anything useful. Before you go rebuilding your system using a full disc, like it should be done, have you tried plugging in the camera and then running Windows Update?

Hmm, no, but I will try it. I had only heard good things about this version, so I tried it. No big deal install my full copy.

If it's a version that was downloaded, I would stop using it right away for other reasons. It sounds like one of the common warez versions floating around that are usually loaded with malware. It may not be illegal if you used your own CD key, but it still may have some nasty things built into it.

the file used for creating the removable drive for digital cameras and whatnot is the usbstor.inf file...if thats missing then ya youll have problems with mass storage devices...fix, take a copy of that file from another computer and paste it into the windows inf folder
