XP Shutdown/Restart Problem

Okay, so I have been having this wierd problem with my new dual core. Sometimes if I like close an installer after installing a few programs and click on the start menu to restart, I will get the hour glass and it will just hang, so I will press the power button on my comp case which will shut it down but it will then hang on Shutting Down screen. What is wrong!!!!

Sometimes files will finish installing during that "Shutting Down" stage, I'm pretty sure service packs and windows updates do this.

I'd just wait, or hold down the power button for like 30 seconds, it'll turn off while you have it held down, or after you let go.

I forgot to update that I disabled the login splash screen and now it works.
