Screensaver does not activate , more often than not. It will for a while , then stop on its own....but mostly just does not come on. Can something be simulating activity ... or what?
Any ideas , other than reboot , or system restore. ( I used to use "Control Screensaver" utility , and same thing would happen )

Dust on the lens of your optical mouse, perhaps?

My mouse is wireless, and I get a flashing LED on the reciever when there's activity. Sometimes I'll come back after hours and the screen will still be on, and the reciever is flashing away. A quick blow on the lens and it stops.

If you want to test if something is causing activity set your monitor to turn off 5 minutes or so after your screensaver turns on. If your monitor doesn't turn off something may be afoul.

My screensaver has not come on in more then a year now, and I would love to know how to fix this. All I can think of that would cause a problem such as this would be a background task that’s taking attention away from the screensaver, and keeping your computer "active".

happens to me sometime too. Well, I don't use a screensaver but I have the monitor set to turn off after 20 minutes. Sometimes I'll come back from class or something and the monitor will still be on, hours later. Never figured out why either. Only does it every few days or so.

Watch a lot of movies, or have problems with your media players?

I noticed that if/when my media player crashes it sometimes jacks up the screensaver, at least it used to.
