a program to convert avi's to burnable file

anyone know of a good program that i can take my simple avi videos and recode them or whatever to be able to burn in nero does someone have a better program to burn it on too, thanks a lot

What are you taking about... You want to burn it so it can be viewed on a DVD player.

tried messing around with that, got a little too confusing and not sure if all of it was freeware and what not, is there any other suggestions with free ware or someone who could do a step by step PM or help me out, id be much appreciated
