i was following a few guides on how to optomize XP for audio recording and one of the steps was changing in the device manager under Computer, the ACPI to "Standard PC" to cause a change in how IRQs are handled, well I dont think it helped me at all and I want to go back to ACPI but how the guide says to reset it isnt working for me (says to update driver, choose driver manually, and select ACPI) but my computer only shows me "Standard PC" and I cannot uninstall it or anything to change it.. any ideas except for a reinstall? also, is there any easy way to reset all of Xp's services back to defaults?

I think to goto ACPI you might have to reinstall, but uninstalling it and reinstalling it at boot may work, but I dunno if it would boot right by doing that!
The driver wont be on your hard drive cuz it used the standard PC, but it should be on the CD, might wanan try the udpate driver thing and manually find it on the CD?

Have you tried using a system restore point from before the switch to standard?
