guys i have a problem. i just got my new mobo and proc (A8N-SLI Deluxe and x2 3800+) and have been running it for about a week now. i decided to start trying to oc it today, after reading eclipse's great amd guide (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1027479689#post1027479689). i followed everything exactly. i dropped the ht link multi to 2x with the nTune program that came with my board. i put the cpu multi at 5x with asus Ai Booster program that also came with the board. and i put the ram at 200mhz in bios (because it wouldnt go any lower). i would have done the ht link and cpu multis in bios but i couldnt find the options.

from there i started trying to bring the fsb up with the ai booster program. i figured it would be better to use what came with the board than to use clockgen--perhaps i was wrong, i dont know. ai booster has the option to raise the cpu external frequency, i could be way off but isnt that another name for the fsb? i've been out of the loop for awhile so correct me if i am wrong. anyway i got it to 216 without any problems, both instances of prime95 ran fine. the moment i hit 217 or higher though, the system would immediately freeze. no errors in prime95, no immediate reboot--it would just freeze. even the mouse wouldnt move. i tried raising the cpu voltage all the way to 1.4125 (i watercool, voltage shouldnt be an issue) and always the same response. i made sure the pci bus was locked at 33.33, still the same response.

i dont know what to do, is my board just topping out at a pathetic 216 or what? eclipse's guide says there's a problem if i cant break 250 and i cant even do 220!

edit: if it helps any, my bios is 1013. should i upgrade to 1016, or would it be worth the trouble of finding a floppy drive and hooking it up?

I have the exact same problem with the same board.

AMD Opteron 165
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
XP90-C
2GB (1GBx2) of Patriot PSD1G400

My FSB craps out between 233mhz and 235mhz.

I used the same guide that freagul used.

I would be glad to post more information but I have no idea what information would be needed! :)

Any help would be appreciated.

i wonder if this board just doesnt oc very well. i've been googling it a bit and i've seen two or three other people with this same problem. one guy started getting the bsod at almost the exact speed i freeze at . . .

do not use aibooster, that program is your problem

I used that, and my pc froze
Ive been using clockgen ever since and can get 2600 easy with stock volts.

I have a8n-sli deluxe and it posts up to 280 with 4x htt, maybe your problem is with memory, have you used any dividers to see if memory is holding you back? I lower my memory to 333MHz on the bios maybe you should try that as well. I am using bios version 1011 and my motherboard is revision A3. If no go try upping the vmem. I'd like to help further but today I cleaned up my pc thus removed hsf only to find out I have no thermal paste left at home (I work as a part-time idiot) so I can't tweak around the bios much for further overclocking and I have dropped back to stock settings for safety measure. BIOS is your friend guys, exploit it's good will. Seriosly, if you wanna OC, go the BIOS way.
What is the bios version you are using orwick?

Hmm, interesting. I'm on the 1014 BIOS and am at 301x10 no problem...

Common consensus seems to be that AI Booster sucks, clockgen is only a little better (but perfectly funtionable), and BIOS is the absolute best.

yeah AI booster really excelled at pissing me the fuck off when i was trying to overclock, i just ended up using clockgen, MUCH better.

i'm at 270fsb on a a8n-sli btw, i was stuck at 216 cause of my ram divider, but i see you said you set it to the 200 divider so that shouldnt be your problem.

freagul, check your manual page 4-29 the multiplier options are under jumperfree configuration, htt link can be lowered in cpu configuration (page 4-20 manual) where it says Hyper Transprot Frequency

Stay away from the software included by Asus, it stinks.
